BEERS Pale & Hoppy
Pale, straw coloured, hoppy, light, golden. I find these beers very much to my taste.
CASTLE ROCK HARVEST PALE. (ABV 3.8%)
Brewed in the fair city of Nottingham, this beautiful beer is perfection to my palette. Very pale light and fruity, the flavour of hops is to the fore. 10/10
BRUNSWICK TRIPLE HOP. (ABV 4%)
Brewed by the Brunswick Inn in Derby this pale yellow beauty is something else. Astringently bitter but very moreish. Worth seeking out if you are in the vicinity!
THORNBRIDGE WHITE SWAN (ABV 3.5%)
An impossibly pale beer from the Derbyshire micro-brewery with a flavour that belies it's low strength. It has a hint of a lemon / lime flavour within it's hoppiness and drinks extremely well. Recommended!
THORNBRIDGE JAIPUR IPA. (ABV 5.9%)
Woahh....go steady on this very pale beer, it really packs a punch despite it's apparent drinkability. Fruity and slightly sweet you really have to be careful how many of these you have. I would recommend no more than a couple. Pearl had a fairly unpleasant experience after five or six of these when he lost the ability to speak and the use of his legs.
OUTLAW WILD MULE (ABV 3.9)
I don't know whether this is to become a regular product from the experimental arm of Roosters' Brewery but it bloody well ought to be. fabulous dry hoppy finish and a fruity attack. Marvellous
TITANIC ICEBERG (ABV 4.1%)
The best thing to come out of Stoke on Trent since Stanley Matthews. This beer is very pale and is quite astringent although there is just a hint of malt amongst the distinct bitterness.
EXMOOR GOLD (ABV 4.5%
Slightly sweet but deliciously hoppy this beer from the west country takes some beating. Can be difficult to find but when you do, have three or four.
CROUCH VALE BREWER'S GOLD (ABV 4.0%)
This beer from the Essex craft brewery won Supreme Champion Beer at the Great British Beer Festival in 2005 and 2006. Gold in colour it has fruity aroma and a sharp clean taste in which bitterness predominates. Recommended if you can find it.
HYDES JEKYLL'S GOLD (ABV 4.3%)
I have only recently come across this gem of a beer from the Manchester brewery. Fortunately a growing number of pubs have it on their guest list. Fruity, hoppy with a dry finish.
NEWBY WYKE KINGSTON TOPAZ. (ABV 4.2%)
This small affair brewing out of Little Bitham has produced a classic. It is impossible to have just one of these. A mouthful of hops and fruit every swallow, marvellous. Unfortunately it is only brewed seasonally at present.
